When to Embrace Style Trends

“You gotta’ know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away, know when to run.” While it may seem odd to apply this lyric to home decorating, it is essential to creating a home that you will enjoy for years to come. Trends can seem tempting, but when do they add value to your home, and when do they detract? If you are interested in engaging current trends, then this blog is for you! If they aren’t your thing, then don’t feel pressured! Today, we will discuss when you should embrace trends and when you should, well...run.

1.) Appliances

We say go for it! Appliances are something that can be replaced. Currently, we really like colorful appliances, like the ones Dolce and Gabbana recently released. Sam saw these at the most recent International Builder’s Show and hasn’t stopped talking about them since! If you don’t have $35,000 to spend on a refrigerator, there are more accessible trendy options, like retro collections by Home Depot, featuring ovens and refrigerators in colors like sage and robin-egg-blue. Ultimately, these trends will probably die, but you know what they say about fashion--it always comes back around!

2.) Hardware

For sure! Rose-gold hardware is cute and trendy, while concrete is refined and sophisticated. Wall-mounted faucets will give your kitchen or powder room a sleek, modern vibe. Just like appliances, these can be easily replaced if you find yourself no longer loving it.

3.) Wallpaper

Nope, nope, nope, nope. This is a trend for 2019 that we are not huge fans of. It can be enticing, but when this trend dies it is a pain to remove. However, if you really enjoy this trend, consider just putting wallpaper on one wall as an accent, or using it with wainscoting. When you’re removing it with special chemicals and weird tools in five years, don’t say we didn’t warn you!

4.) Counter-tops

Quality counter-tops are expensive, but it’s worth budgeting for something that will last. That’s why we typically recommend going with granite or quartz. There are so many things that can be done to add personality to your home, but the best counter-tops are the ones that will still be beautiful in 30 years.

5.) Paint Color

Right now, white is in! We really like this trend because it often makes your space feel bigger and allows you to get fun accent pieces to decorate. However, if you have small children, white is a tricky color, simply because little hands and white paint don’t get along. If that’s one of your concerns, we can fill you in on our easy-to-clean paint!
